‘Important decisions taken to ensure smooth functioning of deemed university’

Srinagar, Feb 21 (KNO): Union Secretary for Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S Krishnan on Friday virtually chaired the meeting of 26th Management Board meeting of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at SKICC here. Sharing the details of the meeting, Deputy Secretary Finance of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Sanjit Chaudhary, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “Recently NIELIT has been given the status of the deemed university with that in mind there are number of important decisions have to be taken with regard to the manpower. The kind of manpower they have to appoint what will be their recruitment rules.” He said other issues that were discussed in the meeting included the funds that are available with the NIELIT. “Reserve funds available with the management to run the varsity so that they don’t face any hiccups in the future,” Chaudhary said. “All these issues were discussed under the chairmanship of the Union Secretary. Important decisions were taken about how to go ahead with the new characterization that has been given to the NIELIT after becoming the deemed university. It was the focus point of this meeting.” He said such meetings give strength to autonomous bodies like NIELIT to run the show. "NIELIT can't take many decisions on its own as it's an autonomous body under the ministry. Ultimately they have to run under the instructions of the Government of India." Chaudhary said, "The meetings in which the representatives of the ministry also participate gives them the strength to implement the intentions of NIELIT as a whole." According to the officials the meeting brought together directors from NIELIT centers across the country to engage in discussions on the institution’s future growth, academic advancements, and industry collaborations—(KNO)
